Entering The Presence Of An Almighty God
Prayer At Evangel Community Church, we believe that our primary work is prayer. We have been called to Him through the complete work of redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ. We are God’s people, and he has called us His and we now call Him our Father. Check out Jesus’ amazing teaching in Luke 11:1-4 about prayer to His disciples, from which they learned to address their holy and mighty God as Father.
“And I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.'” Zechariah 13:9 ESV
It is also through prayer that each of us grows in our relationship to our Heavenly Father. Jesus tells us in John 15:5-
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
We abide in Christ through prayer – by listening, responding, and obeying God through His Word, by the illumination and prompting of the Holy Spirit. Our vital connection to Him is only possible through prayer.
We pray not to maintain a religious posture, but to stay connected to the One and Only Savior who can make a difference in our hearts and lives, and in the world around us.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because [fn] the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 ESV
The incredible thing about prayer is that we are not the ones who initiate it. The person of Holy Spirit – received at the time of salvation – prays on our behalf, even in those moments when we do not know what to pray.
All through God’s Word, prayer is the primary work to which God has called His children. Through Jesus Christ, and salvation in Him, we enjoy every moment of every day the awesome privilege of dialoguing with, crying out to, and hearing from the same God who formed the universe, and who created us.
If you are reading this and do not have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ – if you are feeling the tug on your heart and life to know God in a personal way – that way is Jesus Christ. We encourage you to pray this simple prayer right now, right where you…
“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross at Calvary, and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer sincerely from your heart, you have now begun a new life in Christ, in which prayer will continue to be your lifeline to God. He loves you, and desires to hear from you. And you can now hear from Him too through the Holy Spirit and through His Word.
We would also love to hear from you, and to help you in any way we can with your new walk with Christ.
And if you are still on the journey of seeking answers in your life, that’s okay, and we want to hear from you too.
We have the awesome opportunity and privilege as God’s redeemed children to intercede and pray on behalf of those around us in need – in our community, and in our world. Evangel Community Church is committed to this mission of prayer and reaching out practically and evangelistically to the community and world in which God has placed us.
We are interested in your life and what’s going on, and how we can pray for your needs, and for the needs of those you love.
Please drop us a line if you would like prayer for any need in your life right now.
