WORSHIP MINISTRY

Praising & Honouring Our Saviour

Honoring God With Our Heart, Soul & Mind

Worship MinistryOur Beliefs and Goals

At Evangel, we believe that true worship is when we fulfill our primary purpose as God’s children and glorify God by loving Him with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5; Isaiah 43:7; Matthew 22:37). As followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are to glorify God – this is the true fulfillment of the purpose of our existence.

Worship glorifies God through adoration (Psalm 95:6), praise (Psalm 99:5), prayer (Daniel 6:10-11), thanksgiving (Nehemiah 12:46) and living a life completely yielded to Him (Romans 12:1).

Worship declares His worth, pays Him due homage and celebrates Him in a life of devotion. We seek to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. (Exodus 15:1-21; 2 Samuel 6:14-16; Psalm 5:7; John 4:23-24; Revelation 4:11; 5:12).

Our goals as a Worship Community are:

LIFT: Lift high the name of Jesus Christ. (John 4:22-26; John12:32; John 14:6).

LEAD: Lead God’s people to lift their hearts and voices to Him, giving Him praise and thanks in music and lyric (Nehemiah 12:45-46; Psalm 66:1-4; Psalm 95:1-2) and also through special music, public Scripture reading, drama, testimony, and other artistic expressions.

PREPARE: Prepare the hearts of men, women, and children to hear the Lord speak through the proclamation of Scripture (Psalm 95:6-9; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42).

EXPRESS: Our worship forms and expressions are both contemporary and traditional, as we strive to achieve a balance between the best of today’s Biblically sound, passionate worship and traditional elements that recognize the richness of our heritage in the faith (Deuteronomy 32:7; Psalm 33:3; Isaiah 46:8-9; Matthew 13:32, Ephesians 5:19; Revelation 5:9).

PURSUE: Pursue excellence in worship, knowing that God is worthy of our very best (Exodus 12; Deuteronomy 17:1; Psalm 33:3, 1 Timothy 4:14-15; Hebrews 11:4).

CULTIVATE: At Evangel, the emphasis is on cultivating relationship first vertically with Christ, then horizontally with our brothers and sisters in Christ, all in the context of community – we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). As individual believers and as a community of worshippers, we are cultivating a dependant, humble, walk with Christ defined by obedience to His Word, and motivated by our love for Him (John 14:15); cultivating Christ-centered relationships in the Body of Christ that help us grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (Hebrews 3:13; 2 Peter 3:18); and cultivating a deeper devotion to Jesus Christ through passionate service in the Body of Christ (John 12:26).

Why worship?

Every human being is born to worship. And everyone worships something. But those whom Christ has found and redeemed now worship their Creator and Saviour. In fact, worshipping Christ is the most significant thing that we do. It is truly the well from which everything else flows – our service, our evangelism, our missions efforts, and all of life. Jesus is our life!

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? (Psalm 8:3-4) These words of David still resonate today in the hearts of the humble and repentant. And we confess: Lord we are in your presence—and we are here only by your mercy and grace. It is only by your mercy and grace that we can worship at all.

The wise men said in Matthew 2:2 – “Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” The presence of God was personified in Jesus and the wise men encountered Him in worship. Every Sunday we gather at Evangel as part of the growing, global Body of Christ to worship our great and awesome God. He is our greatest blessing and we thank Him for the awesome privilege to worship Him.

What is true worship?

Have you truly worshipped? Not just attended a worship service, but actually presented yourself to God in worship (Romans 12:1), anticipating an encounter with Him? Our passion at Evangel is to help you transcend mere earthly ritual and encounter the God of the Universe through floor-shaking, window-rattling worship that changes your life forever! Our desire is that you are able to transcend the congregation, the platform, the singers, and the preacher – and encounter the living God who is worthy of all praise.

It has been said that worship is seeing what God is worth and then giving Him what He’s worth. True worship treasures God’s presence. The Evangel Worship Community seeks to encounter God in our times of corporate worship. It is not about us – it is all about Him. The goal in our worship services is to help each person turn their eyes from themselves – from their problems, their interests, and their distractions – and to see Jesus high and lifted up. As we begin to see Him and to value and enjoy Him He is honoured and glorified – and we are transformed.
What is the Evangel Worship Community?

Our worship community is a place of sharing (Acts 2:44-47) – both our lives and the Word of God one to another; a place of safety (Proverbs 29:25) – where our lives intersect and cover one another in prayer and protection through Christ; and service (1 Corinthians 12:4-11) – offering and developing the gifts God has given us – be they musical, dramatic, people-focused, or technical – for the benefit of the Body of Christ and for His glory.

You are welcome to join us Sunday mornings for corporate worship and teaching of the Word of God, or join us for Inside Out, an evening of intimate worship and prayer that happens on the last Sunday evening of each month. More information about Inside Out.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
